Fulfilling Our Promise to Seniors
Dan believes our senior citizens have the right to retire with dignity and security. That is why he will fight to protect Social Security and ensure that our Medicare system works for seniors.
Social Security
Unlike his opponent, Dan strongly opposes plans to privatize social security. One look at the market will tell you why. Rather than undermining social security with risky privatization schemes, Dan believes we should focus on strengthening it so that we can maintain our promise to American workers.
Pension Protection
America has seen increasing instances of corporations raiding their employees' pension funds. Workers have earned these pensions and based their retirement plans on this income.
Dan will work for legislation that requires corporations to fulfill their pension promises and not use these funds to cover other expenses. Further efforts should also be made to encourage workers to invest in Individual Retirement Accounts and provide Americans with tax incentives for providing for their futures.
Reform the Medicare Part D Program
One of our national priorities must be providing Americans with affordable access to prescription drugs. Nobody should have to choose between the drugs they need and paying their bills. Dan will work to overhaul the deeply flawed Medicare drug program so that seniors can get the drugs they need in a simple, comprehensive, cost-effective program.
Dan supports creating a prescription drug benefit run by Medicare, rather than requiring seniors to join unreliable private plans that would charge them different premiums for different benefits all over the country. Dan will further work to reduce the skyrocketing costs of the program by allowing the government to use its massive buying power to negotiate drug prices, as the Veterans Administration has successfully done for veterans for years.
