Stem Cell Research
Embryonic stem cells are the key to regenerative medicine, which scientists agree is the
foundation of better health care in the future.
I support the federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. President Bush’s policy
allowing limited funding, for research with fewer than two dozen stem cell lines, is an
outrageous denial of scientific progress and of the needs of millions of people suffering
from incurable and painful diseases.
These are embryos that would otherwise be discarded. They must be made available for
research that can yield critical insight, more effective treatments and possibly cures for a
wide range of debilitating diseases, including juvenile diabetes and Parkinson’s.
I will support federal legislation expanding funding for embryonic stem cell research.
