In the North Shore's 10th Congressional District, the planned 700-mile fence along the U.S.-Mexican border is one hot topic in what's turning out to be a tight race.
Congressman Mark Kirk is facing a tough challenge from political newcomer Dan Seals.
Democratic challenger Seals wants to tighten U.S. borders, but not with a 700-mile fence. While he opposes amnesty, Seals says we must do "something" with the 12 million illegal immigrants already living and working here in the U.S.
He says he would favor some kind of visa for such workers, and they would also have to pay penalties and fines for entering the country illegally.
Kirk refuses to talk about the fate of those 12 million people right now. He says no reform will work until the borders are sealed. He voted in favor of the wall (fence) along the border.
