Kirkfacts.com Goes Live

Thursday, September 14, 2006

WILMETTE, Ill. – In the Orwellian world where the Bush administration dwells, too often officials assert “facts” contradicted by evidence. Now there’s a place to check the veracity of the storyline for the congressman in the 10th Congressional District of Illinois. Kirkfacts.com has gone live at http://www.kirkfacts.com. Web surfers can find exactly where Rep. Mark Kirk’s words don’t match the public record on a wide array of issues including, Iraq, health care, fiscal responsibility, veterans affairs and the separation between church and state.

The site documents numerous examples where Rep. Kirk’s House votes contradict what he’s told his constituents about his policy positions.

For example, speaking about the Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, he told a town hall meeting in January, “absolutely, the government should negotiate for lower prices.” Unfortunately, he voted for the bill that expressly forbid such negotiation.

The site was in part generated by numerous complaints by constituents who have joined a large grassroots groundswell for Dan Seals, the Democratic congressional candidate in the Illinois 10 th district.
