Dan Seals Marks 5 Year Anniversary of War in Iraq, Says It’s Time to Bring Troops Home
While Mark Kirk Has Rubberstamped the Failed Republican Agenda in Iraq, Seals Will Fight to Change Course
March 19 , 2008
Deerfield, IL —Today, March 19th, marks the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq. Despite the enormous toll of the war, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk continues to support the failed policies of President Bush and presumptive Republican Presidential nominee John McCain, while preventing the change in course supported by the majority of Americans.
“As we enter our sixth year of the war in Iraq, which has taken the lives of nearly 4,000 Americans, it’s time for us to begin bringing our troops home and handing off responsibility to the Iraqis,” Congressional Candidate Dan Seals said. “The past five years in Iraq have cost the 10th district alone over $2 billion, money that we could have spent on expanding healthcare coverage, improving our schools, and easing the tax burden on our middle class. Not only has the war hurt our economy, but it has also overstretched our troops and compromised our military readiness.”
Seals continued, “If we want to change our course in Iraq, we need to change who we elect to Congress. Unlike Mark Kirk, I will fight to responsibly and honorably withdraw all of our troops from Iraq, hand over responsibility to the Iraqi government, and rebuild our military.”
