U.S. Senator Dick Durbin Endorses Congressional Candidate Dan Seals Based On His Commitment to Changing Washington

Highlights Need for Fresh, New Voices in Congress

January 21 , 2008

Deerfield, IL —Yesterday, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, the senior Senator from Illinois and the Senate Majority Whip, announced his endorsement of Dan Seals’ campaign for Congress in Illinois’ 10th district. Citing Seals’ commitment to changing course in Iraq, delivering universal healthcare, and turning our economy around, Durbin emphasized that Seals would be the Democrats’ best candidate to beat Rep. Mark Kirk and bring real change to Washington.

“We have 365 days left before we have a new President of the United States, a new direction for our country, and before we put behind us some of the terrible decisions and policies that we’ve seen over the past seven years,” Durbin said. “Our new President will need a new Congressman from the 10th district. Yesterday’s Congressman is not the answer to tomorrow’s problems. We need tomorrow’s Congressman, which is why we need Dan Seals.”

After years of failed leadership from Mark Kirk, Seals is running for Congress to help change the course of the country and the way business is done in Washington. Seals has been a vocal supporter of a timetable for withdrawal from the war in Iraq, making healthcare affordable and accessible to all Americans, and ensuring that the economy works for everyone.

“Illinois is blessed to have Senator Durbin’s strong and principled leadership in Washington,” Seals said. “I am proud to have the support of someone who has fought to keep this administration on track and accountable. I look forward to working with Senator Durbin to reclaim the 10th district and bring real change to Washington.”

Seals, a local businessman and father to three daughters, has received over 30 endorsements from local elected officials, Democratic clubs, and interest groups. He was recently ranked by Congressional Quarterly as one of the top ten best-funded Congressional challengers in the country. As a first-time candidate in 2006, he received nearly 47% of the vote against Kirk, despite being vastly outspent.
