Seals Urges Congress to Support Israel’s Right to Self-Defense in Gaza

Deerfield, IL —Today, Congressional Candidate Dan Seals urged the House of Representatives to support HR 951, which condemns the ongoing Palestinian rocket attacks from Gaza, and called on all Americans to stand with Israel as Israel undertakes difficult but necessary operations in Gaza to fight terrorism.
“Imagine how we would feel if we were subject to daily rocket attacks and our children were not safe at home, in school, or at restaurants,” Seals said. “I doubt that we would exercise even a tenth of the restraint that Israel has exercised thus far.”
Since 2005, when Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza, over 4,000 rockets have been fired into Israel. Rather than focusing on improving the lives of Palestinians, Hamas has dedicated itself to renewed terror in support of destroying the world’s only Jewish state. Seals noted that more than 250,000 Israelis are within the range of Hamas rockets and that Israel has not only the right, but the duty, to defend its citizens from Hamas terrorism.
“This is not a ‘cycle of violence’ and there is no moral equivalence,” Seals said. “The difference between Hamas attacks and the Israeli responses, is that Hamas deliberately targets civilians. The world must understand that Israel’s military and economic pressure on Hamas in Gaza is the result of, not the cause of, terrorism initiated by Hamas and that the fault for the current situation lies clearly with Hamas and its sponsors, Iran and Syria.”
Seals said that passage of HR 951 would send Israel and the international community the message that the United States strongly supports Israel’s right to self-defense in the face of terrorist attacks. It would also highlight that Hamas actions only serve to endanger those innocent Palestinians who support peace and oppose terrorism.
“Until Hamas stops terrorism, recognizes Israel, and agrees to abide by previous agreements between Israel and the Palestinians, there will not be peace,” Seals said. “And until then, all Americans must stand united with Israel in her hour of need.”
