Seals Only Candidate Opposed to the War from the Start
Unequivocally supports a responsible timeline for withdraw
July 13, 2007
Wilmette, IL--Representative Mark Kirk voted against the Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act of 2007 which passed the United States House of Representatives yesterday by a vote of 223-201.In addition, the White House released an interim report on the progress in Iraq which gave eight grades of "satisfactory," eight of "unsatisfactory" and two mixed reviews. Congressman Kirk has continued his support for the war, even saying this week that “the surge has been successful” in Iraq.
“I am disappointed in Congressman Kirk’s continued support for the war. He has remained within the President’s inner circle and continues to support his position, despite evidence that our current strategy in Iraq is not working,” Dan Seals said in regard to the vote and the recent assessment of the situation in Iraq.
“I am the only candidate who has opposed the war from the start and the only one who unequivocally supports a responsible timeline for withdraw,” Seals continued.
After narrowly escaping a close re-election in 2006, Representative Kirk has been trying to distance himself from the President by voting for the non-binding resolution against the troop surge. However, when it comes time to vote for a plan to begin the responsible redeployment of our troops, Representative Kirk continually votes against the plan despite his rhetoric.
