Kirk Votes against Responsible Redeployment Act
July 12, 2007
Wilmette, IL- Representative Mark Kirk today voted against the Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act of 2007 which passed the United States House of Representatives 223-201.
“One wonders if those that opposed this bill truly believe that things are improving in Iraq—or just have a hard time admitting they were wrong. While I am disappointed in Congressman Kirk’s vote, I am encouraged that the result of this vote was better than that of the last bill. Common sense is spreading through the Congress,” stated Dan Seals.
Today’s bill gained more votes than any other of the previous withdrawal votes. The Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act requires a responsible redeployment of U.S. troops beginning within 120 days of enactment and ending by April 1, 2008 and for the President to publicly justify the post-redeployment missions for the US military in Iraq and the minimum number of troops necessary to carry out those missions.
This bill is consistent with the advice of military and foreign policy experts, ensures the safety of our men and women in uniform, addresses our commitment to fighting terrorism, and reflects the will of the American people.
