Dan Seals Added to  DCCC’s Competitive “Red to Blue” Program

Highlights Seals’ Early Strength and Success Engaging Voters With Message of Change

March 12 , 2008

Deerfield, IL —Coming in the wake of Bill Foster’s stunning victory in neighboring IL-14 over the weekend, the Democratic Campaign Congressional Committee today named Congressional Candidate Dan Seals (IL-10) to its “Red to Blue” program. Seals earned a spot in the exclusive program by demonstrating his early strength and inspiring people from across the district with his commitment to bringing change to Washington.

“I am honored to be named to this critical program. As I’ve traveled across the district and met with voters, I’ve heard their concerns about the rising costs of healthcare, the flagging economy, and our open-ended engagement in Iraq,” Seals said. “Now more than ever, they are ready for change and a new direction in Washington. I am honored to have the support of the thousands of people who have already joined our campaign for change and look forward to building on our strong start with the help of this important program.”

Seals, a local businessman and father of three daughters, was recently ranked bu Congressional Quarterly as the sixth best-funded Congressional challenger in the country. As a first-time candidate in 2006, he received nearly 47% of the vote against Kirk, despite being vastly outraised and receiving little support from the national Democratic Party.

About Red-to-Blue (from DCCC.org):

“The Red to Blue program is designed to provide financial and structural aid to the strongest Democratic candidates across the country.  The program will introduce Democratic donors to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for their campaigns.

“Red to Blue was a proven success in 2004 and 2006.  In 2004, the Red to Blue program raised nearly $7.5 million for twenty seven campaigns across the country with an average of more than $250,000 per campaign.  In 2006, Red to Blue was a pivotal part of the effort that made Democrats the Majority in Congress. In 2006, the program raised nearly $22.6 million for 56 campaigns across the country with an average of more than $404,000 per campaign. Red to Blue helped solidify the structure of dozens of campaigns and made a real difference for Democrats across America.”
