People become successful by making a series of right decisions. More often than not, it involves being at the right place at the right time, showing off your expertise, and having a bit of luck. While this seems easy enough, not many people are using this knowledge in chasing their dreams. In fact, not many of us are ever ready to chase our aspirations, let alone decide to even follow our passions.

Why Most People Don’t Chase Their Dreams

One can have a wide array of reasons not to chase our dreams; the common reason being one’s fear of taking risks. We find it too easy to stay in our comfort zone that even if given the chance, we choose still choose to stay. In reality, staying stagnant in one’s comfort zone can also lead to stress, anxiety, and depression.

Most people also lack the confidence to chase after their dreams. They have the resources, experience, and skills needed to go for something they truly want to achieve. But without self-confidence, negative thoughts can quickly flood your head, leading you to believe you don’t have what it take to succeed.

There are also people who are afraid of the uncertainty that comes with taking risks. They are afraid of the unknown and are afraid to think about all the possible ways they can fail.

Another reason people choose not to chase their dreams is they easily get overwhelmed. Once they find out how hard it is to achieve their goals, they simply choose to give up and go back to their old ways.

Things People Do Wrong When Chasing Their Dreams

Simply making the decision to chase after your dreams is not enough to succeed. There are many steps and risks you need to take in order to reach your goals. There are also a lot of things you need to avoid doing to increase your chances of success.

Lack of research

Many people would chase their dreams without even educating themselves before taking the risk. You can simply expect to attain your goals without knowing what you are up against. There is a need to educate yourself before making any investment to avoid potential heartbreak.

For example, you always wanted to publish your own book. All you did was go from one publishing house to another without even exploring your options. Since you did not know you can self-publish your cookbook, you decided to quit your dream after numerous publishing houses rejected your works.

If you take time researching everything there is to know in chasing your dream, you can learn about the different options you have. Remember that there is no easy way to attain your goals. But there are many ways you can do it, not just the traditional way.

Procrastinating

Too many people procrastinate on their most important tasks. They easily get distracted with things that do not concern them, often doing certain activities mindlessly despite knowing the consequences. They do this all over again, up until they suffer the repercussions.

Procrastinating can sometimes help you relieve stress. This is since you get to take control by taking some time before working on your tasks that have deadlines. But in reality, this will only delay your stress and you can end up feeling more burned out than ever.

If you are serious about chasing after your dream, stop procrastinating. Think of ways you can work smart so you can save a considerable amount of time. This way, you are also saying no to unnecessary stress.

Quitting your day job

Too many people made the mistake of saying goodbye to their day jobs in pursuit of chasing their dreams. While some are lucky enough to experience success after resigning from their jobs, far more individuals regret doing so. They learned the hard way that to realistically chase after their dream, they still have to keep their jobs to avoid being broke.

This can be an exciting time for you. But while it is understandable that your enthusiasm is now tied to you chasing your dream, this is also the best time to be realistic. You still want to be able to provide for your needs so you will have the financial means to get to where you want to be.

Make sure that while you’re chasing after that dream, you are also building your wealth. Having enough savings to act as your buffer in case everything goes downhill will give you better peace of mind. You can also use the cash to support your dream.

There is no single formula to success when chasing after your dream. What might have worked very well with others may not be the best strategy for you. But if there is one thing for sure, that is the fact that you don’t want to commit the mistakes listed above.
